The fireplace was nice but a gas fireplace doesn't give any warmth if it doesn't have a blower and due to the fact that there wasn't any heat in our suite on a 34° night really didn't do us any good. A hot tub filled halfway with somewhat warm water is anything but romantic. Instead of a Jacuzzi, there was a hot tub with jets which would have been fine if there would have been enough hot water to fill it to actually enjoy since it did not have a built-in heater. The small suite was very nice but in fact had no balcony or Jacuzzi. We rented a suite for my birthday which the woman we spoke to boasted a Jacuzzi, fireplace and balcony with a beautiful view of the woods. We had very high hopes for the Gateway lodge from looking at the website and seeing some of the reviews. We look forward to your return! Thank you for your wonderful, warm comments! I am so glad that you were able to bring a friend, relax, unwind, enjoy the forest, and enjoy our lodge. It is truly special to have such a wonderful selection here in our little part of the forest. From farm fresh eggs in the morning to locally sourced meats and fish in the evening, our restaurant is dedicated to ensuring all of our guests have a wonderful meal freshly prepared! We have been awarded by Wine Spectator with their Award of Excellence every year since 2008 for our wine list. Overall, the experience doesn't match the price. We are so happy that you were able to relive your childhood with us here at Gateway Lodge! You are so right about this being a wonderful playground here in Cook Forest! This is definitely a playground for young and old alike! I believe as we get older, we are able to appreciate what we have here so much more! It sounds as if you had the time of your life! You are so correct with our restaurant and bar! The dining room staff work hard to ensure that our guests receive the best quality ingredients in all of their dining experience here with us. Our waitress was attentive, fast, and fun. It would have been an okay meal for half the price.īut the service was amazing. The vegetables seemed to have spent many hours under a heat lamp. The meat was super tender and good but it seemed to be boiled with no seasoning. My wife and I both had the venison back-strap. I'd give it a 4 but only because the service was so outstanding. I wish I could rate the restaurant separately. One more tip, there's matches and a couple fire starters hidden up under the cover over the wood pile outside. Again, no big deal but for this very high price and for calling it out specifically, not acceptable.įinally, bring shampoo. My guess is the sheets were just quite old. The fitted sheet didn't stay on the mattress. No big deal but coupled with the strange warning to not steal them, it was annoying.Īnother not so small thing, the advertisement specifically calls out "luxury linens". However, there were no robes, which we discovered late Friday on our way to the hot tub. Not acceptable.Ī small thing, upon check-in, we were told not to take the robes or we'll be charged $85 each. I don't want to have to get out of bed and bundle up to drink my coffee. We spoke to the front desk Saturday and they said they would not turn it on. The biggest thing was it was cold in the mornings.
